Beaming It Right

With Paula Te at CIID.

In half a day, we experimented with projecting light through different materials and on different surfaces. Through these experiments, we explored the patterns, textures, and qualities of refracted light.

For the first set of images, we took generative designs and movie scenes and projected them through water and glass. The result ranges from an aurora-like hazy cloud to slices of green light cutting through a scene in Casablanca.

In the second set of images, we projected samples of animated text on an angled surface and took close-up shots of the projections. The angle of the surfaces splits the piece into two, with contrasting speed, color, and texture on either side.

We presented this work along with “Finger Follows Function” at the end of the class.
